Strategic Turn-Based RPG

Working at the indie game company Theia Studios for over a year, I went through a journey of building a mobile strategy game with an amazing team as the sole game designer. Icons of Theia was the first game the company was releasing, and with the core idea and theme made by the time I joined, it was time to jump into the development of building something great!

 

Meet the Team

With the company working remotely our team was based worldwide. From California to New York, to South Korea, no amount of distance stopped us from collaborating and working together as if we were all in the same office together.

 

A picture from our first On-Site meetup! It was nice seeing everyone in person and doing things like playing pickleball, making pizza, and planning the game's future! It was also fun seeing my CEO’s dog Summer (I gave her lots of pets.)

 

WHAT IS ICONS OF THEIA?

The core focus of the game centers around building a team of powerful characters known as Icons, to use and compete with in turn-based combat! Icons of Theia has a very competitive side to it, with a PvP mode that features its own ranked system and leaderboard. It does offer however a new PvE roguelike mode known as Adventure for players who are looking for their own journey, away from competing against others.

MY WORK

Being tasked with game design in a small team, I worked on many facets of design during my time at Theia Studios. Product specs, balancing, playtesting, and art integration were some of the things I did daily. In these, I led a lot of the conceptualization of new gameplay mechanics, quests, Icons, features, and game modes!
